ACTOR VIK SAHAY HONORED TO ATTEND TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR 'AFGHAN LUKE' PREMIERE ON 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) September 2, 2011 -- Toronto, September 2, 2011 -- Actor Vik Sahay’s role as conniving journalist ‘Imran Sahar’ in the drama Afghan Luke doesn’t reveal many similarities to the quirky ‘Lester Patel’ he portrays on the hit television series Chuck.

The drama set in the Afghan desert stars Sahay opposite Nick Stahl (Terminator 3) and Colin Cunningham (Falling Skies) and is directed by Mike Clattenburg, best known for the Canadian television mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys and premieres at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 11, 2011.

Afghan Luke centers on a war crime, discovered by journalist ‘Luke Benning’ (Nick Stahl) but kept secret from the public. When ‘Benning’ pursues the story to make sure soldiers are held accountable, ‘Sahar’ sees an opportunity to chase the story himself. Sahay found the angle on the story fascinating on the ever elusive front in Afghanistan. “In the film, these young, healthy Western journalists have descended on the conflict with their own agendas. Maybe very luxurious agendas and not altogether noble.”

Sahay feels that the acceptance into TIFF is a colossal sign of victory for the film. “It’s a huge signal that you're in the mix, that your work is being seen and valued. I feel really honored to be in the company of film artists who made it to the finish line in such style.” In 2010, Sahay came to TIFF to represented the drama Amal which received six Genie nominations. That film also was a great display of Sahay’s dramatic acting skills.

About the fact that the film premieres on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Sahay responds “It’s eerie. I remember that day so distinctly. But with the tunnel vision of the character I was playing, I didn't feel the arc of the film as being fully connected to 9/11. Of course it is. 9/11 is the domino that sets all of this in motion. But the characters are all using the war as a kind of playground to work out their identity; they go through initiations together that they would have done somewhere else had this opportunity not come up. They're kind of a narcissistic bunch in that way. That may sound cynical, but I think that's the way things go. Catastrophic, singular events take place and then a lot of life gets lived around them by people who weren't immediately affected.”

Sahay found the experience of filming the drama as far away from network television as it can be. Not only was it dusty and remote, but it provided him with an artistic rejuvenation. Working with actor Nick Stahl was another highlight of the project. Sahay and Stahl got along right of the bat, “It was the beginning of a friendship that I really value. I had always watched and admired his work in a big way, so it was the thing I was most jazzed about when I got cast. And then doing the work, talking about the work, was fantastic. He's such a truthful, natural actor. I picked his brain a lot about the films he has been a part of. I really hope we get to work together again.”

Afghan Luke premieres at TIFF on September 11th followed by a Q&A with cast and director. The film re-screens with a Q&A on Monday, September 12, 2011.

About Vik Sahay

Sahay is a US-Canadian actor starring as morally challenged nerd ‘Lester Patel’ on the hit television series Chuck. He first popped on the screen in the television hit “You can’t do this on Television’ and has since starred in many series and films in the US and Canada, including the six time Genie nominated drama “Amal,” “Good Will Hunting,” “The Rocker,” “Roxy Hunter,” “This is Wonderland,” “Radio Active” and more. Sahay’s upcoming projects include the highly anticipated Universal feature “American Wedding” the fourth installment of the “Amerian Pie” comedy, starring opposite the complete original cast. “Chuck” returns for its fifth and final season October 21, 2011

About Afghan Luke:

Disheartened when his story about Canadian snipers possibly mutilating corpses in Afghanistan is buried, Luke (Nick Stahl) quits his job but is even more determined to return to Afghanistan to get the real story. With his offbeat buddy, Tom (Nicolas Wright), tagging along, Luke returns to Afghanistan and intends to gather enough evidence to get his old story into print. But he soon finds that the country is an even more dangerous place than when he left. To make matters worse, his old friend and fixer, Mateen (Stephen Lobo) has been hired away by Luke’s journalistic nemesis, Imran Sahar (Vik Sahay). Soon the trip for Luke and Tom in Afghanistan turns into a surreal and perilous adventure, a journey into an alternate reality, filtered through a haze of gun smoke. Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Tom Schanley, and others star in "Baraboo" world premiere at AOF Fest 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) July 18, 2011 -- Actress Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of California Lieutenant Governor and former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, stars in the romantic comedy feature "Till You Get To Baraboo", which premieres worldwide in the Action On Film International Film Festival on July 25, 2011.

Siebel-Newsom plays Judy Claymore, the old flame of Roland Hayes (William Mendieta), who surprises him at his hotel room on the eve of her wedding to another man. Confusion, mayhem, and of course romance ensues.

A trailer for the film can be viewed on YouTube.

In "Baraboo", Mrs. Siebel-Newsom displays an enticingly playful wit as well as her trademark uncommon beauty. The filmmakers found her a delight to work with: "Jennifer brought charm and grace to her portrayal of Judy, an eternal optimist who urges others to look at the bright side and dwell on the positive," notes "Baraboo" writer-director Emmett Loverde. "She was everything we could have hoped for and more."

"Baraboo" also features actor Tom Schanley, currently starring with Roma Downey in the Hallmark Channel telefilm "Keeping Up With the Randalls"; Amanda Noret who co-starred as villainess Madison Sinclair on TV's "Veronica Mars"; William Mendieta, co-star of the festival favorite "Soldier of God", and Genevieve Zweig.

The film features music by folk-rock artist David Shepherd Grossman including his single "Darkness", the video for which features clips from "Baraboo".

The filmmakers are using the crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com to launch a “virtual box office” for the film, allowing viewers to support the release of the film in exchange for being able to view the film online, an exclusive limited edition DVD or Blu-Ray, T-shirts, or even a private screening in Los Angeles http://www.indiegogo.com/baraboo. “Indiegogo has provided us a way to reach out to potential audiences in ways that are simply not possible using traditional distribution channels such as movie theaters and video stores,” Mr. Loverde notes. “We can now craft and fine-tune a release plan based on what viewers want to see and the ways they want to see it.”

The AOF Fest premiere marks the start of the journey of "Baraboo" through the festival circuit and into theaters and homes on DVD and On-Demand. AOF was named by Moviemaker Magazine as one of the “Top 25 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” in 2009. Success and widespread industry acceptance have recently enabled the Festival to launch the AOF Channel, a weekly television series which showcases the talents of Festival filmmakers via a traditional broadcast model.

VESSEL world premiere at 2011 Action on Film, Film Festival.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 15, 2011 --
Producer Director Carlo Treviso recently completed another one of his short films. This latest short film is titled “VESSEL” and has been officially selected for the 2011 Action On Film International Film Festival in Los Angeles, CA screening Saturday July 30th. The film will make its world debut at the short film festival. Treviso has hopes of turning this into a full-length feature film.

The short film with feature film potential, explores the complex emotions surrounding death and dying, while injecting an allegorical sci-fi element, which deals with the extraction and transference of a human soul into a robotic form. VESSEL is a reverent allegory exploring the greatest mystery of life: being the question of what happens after death.

Treviso originally conceived the project. This isn’t Treviso’s first short film or science fiction foray, as he’s previously written/produced/directed the award-winning 2010 short film “Freeborn”, which screened at international film festivals in cities as diverse as Los Angeles, London, La Rioja Spain, and Milwaukee. Treviso’s work is inspired by the power of myth, as he believes that the best science fiction should serve as a metaphorical allegory of the human condition. Philosophy, revolution, social forms of ancient and modern man, discoveries in science and technology, all rise from the magic ring of myth. VESSEL is an example of the philosophical, technological and mythical storytelling that is Treviso’s specialty. Treviso doesn’t create Science Fiction, he creates Modern Myths, and VESSEL is no exception. This short film is prime to be extended into a full-length feature film, and could hopefully explain the question: what is a myth? Treviso hopes to shift the general perception of traditional science fiction within his body of work to a more myth-centric experience, within a full-length feature film.

VESSEL was shot over a one-day period in the Chicago area. Treviso chose Chicago for the incredible talent and production pool in Chicago. The actors featured in the film are Heidi Drennan and SAG actor Chris Agos. Treviso also hails from Chicago, IL and is a creative agency producer currently with global advertising agency J. Walter Thompson (JWT), selected as Ad Week’s 2009 Agency of Year. He has creative-produced inspirational TV and Web campaigns---designed to excite and inspire audiences---for world-class brands such as Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, NASA, Enjoy Illinois, and Levi’s, and featuring A-list talent Lenny Kravitz, Avril Lavigne, and Scottie Pippen.

The VESSEL creative team decided to shoot this short film on the Panasonic Varicam. The Varicam is a broadcast standard digital HD cinema camera that provided the team with the ability to achieve dramatic color information and shallow depth of field. Aesthetically VESSEL was shot in a cinema verite (or hand-held) inspired style. The hand held camera work was chosen to amplify the sense of emotional urgency that the films communicates in dealing with the subject matter of death, dying, and the loss of a loved one.

Visually and for the overall tone of film, the works of Stanley Kubrick heavily inspired Treviso. Kubrick is known for his poignant melodrama and emphasis on vibrant primary colors as a means to draw the viewer into a specific moment in the narrative experience. With VESSEL, Treviso used a similar approach with his creative direction to the talent, along with the color palette, particularly emphasizing the blues and reds. The blue motif representing the cool world in which we live, contrasted with the red motif, hinting at the mysterious life force of the great beyond.

Treviso’s production company is Veteran Pictures. Veteran Pictures is Full-Service Creative Production Studio which conceives, produces, and activates all forms of original branded content. Made up of cerebral creative thinkers and populist storytellers, their mission is to excite and inspire audiences with emotional, narrative-charged visual experiences.
