Movie Review: This movie is about the life of the late South Indian actress Silk Smitha. It showcases the sad and tragic life of a make-up girl who aspired to become famous on the silver screen by starting off as an extra to rise as the most desirous screen sensation in the early 1980s.

However, Silk Smitha did not hit it big with her acting skills in the South. She only managed vamp roles that did her acting skills no justice. Although she knew her audience, she could not win their hearts on her acting skills despite her fierce ambition spurring her on. Silk was only renowned as the screen queen of sensuality.
Silk also lost out in love; three men were involved in her life but her love for one was not reciprocated. Her unfortunate encounter with love through deceit brought only infidelity and dire consequences. Silk lost out in everything: love, dignity and life. A tragic end reveals how unmerciful and cold the world can be in manipulation and deceit for its own gain regardless of another’s expense.

The Dirty Picture is a chronicle of the sharp rise and fall of Silk Smitha, a screen siren in the 80s who was yearning for true acceptance in love and as an individual. This movie was filmed in India against the colorful backdrop of the 1980s South film industry. It is due to be released on December 2nd, 2011. The movie is well conducted to avoid explicit sleaze but focuses on life and its harsh offerings.
