IBN-Lokmat presents Great Bhet with Popatrao Pawar, a leader with a difference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pune, Maharashtra, India, Republic of (Free-Press-Release.com) July 22, 2011 --

John Adams once said “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” Many people complain about the state of affairs, but very few actually work towards making it better and starting from the grassroots is always a great idea. Popatrao Pawar, the sarpanch of Hivre Bazaar, a village of 1,300 people in Ahmednagar district, is among those few who work to make things better. This week Great Bhet brings you the village leader who changed the face of his village only on IBN-Lokmat in an exclusive interview with Nikhil Wagle, Editor, IBN-Lokmat on Saturday, 23rd July 2011 at 9:30 pm.

The ground reality in Hivre Bazaar almost 20 years ago was one of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, low agricultural activity and high crime rate. Lack of water and failure in monsoon made cultivation of crops very difficult. This was until Popatrao Pawar was elected as the sarpanch. A post-graduate in commerce, he first tackled the problem of inadequate water supply that won the village its first National Water Award for community-led water conservation from the Union Ministry of Water Resources. He rigidly implemented the Employment Guarantee Scheme to overcome unemployment and introduced innovative agricultural techniques. Hivre Bazaar is now equipped with education and modern health facilities. Such an effort by Popatrao Pawar earned praise and accolades by the Government of Maharashtra.
Meet Popatrao Pawar, a true leader who elevated the state of his village and people, from an economic ruin to a model village. To know more tune into IBN-Lokmat on Saturday, 23rd July 2011 at 9:30pm.
